Air — Riding or jumping a skateboard into the air.
Ex. "Did you see Kickflip's jump? He got major air!"

Bail — An intentional fall to avoid a possible slam.
Ex. "Backslide had to bail on that jump or he was going to come down hard!"

Backside — The direction of a turn on an incline, meaning the backside of the body is facing the wall.
Ex. "Ollie came around backside and then went into a kickflip-ollie combination."

Carving — Skateboarding
Ex. "Due, you want to go carve later after school?"

Coping — The material on the lip of a ramp used to grind, slide or bump.
Ex. "The coping on that ramp was wicked old!"

Deck — A skateboard.
Ex. "Rocket's got a rad deck! It looks amazing when he's grinding."

Fakie — Going backwards on a skateboard.
Ex. "Blowout flipped his stance and started going fakie."

Gap — The area between two riding surfaces over which skaters would ollie.
Ex. "Did you see that gap? It was massive!"

Grind — A trick done on any lip where the truck comes in contact with the edge of the ramp.
Ex. "Bail totally grinded that handrail the whole way down!"

Grip Tape — The sandpaper-like tape with an adhesive back placed on the skateboard to provide a non-slip surface.
Ex. "Staying on my board is so much easier now that I've added grip tape."

Hang — Catch the back wheels or truck on coping as the board reenters the ramp.
Ex. "Before Blowout came back down into the half-pipe, he was able to hang for a moment."Half-pipe — A wooden ramp on which a skateboard is ridden.
Ex. "Halfshell is totally rad when skating on the half-pipe!"Launch Ramp — A kind of ramp that propels a skater into the air.
Ex. "After leaving the launch ramp, Fakie was able to catch some major air."

Lip — The edge of any obstacle that a skateboarder rides.
Ex. "The lip on the curb was perfect for street skating."

Manual — Balancing while riding a skateboard on two wheels.
Ex. "The manual is one of Primo's favorite tricks."

Nose — The forward-facing part of the skateboard.
Ex. "Boneless rides regular — meaning that his left fin is toward the nose."
Ollie — The basis for most skateboard tricks. The back foot smacks the tail of the board against the ground while the front foot pulls the board up into the air.
Ex. "Indy can ollie several times in a row — sweet!"

Quarter-pipe — A ramp which is equal to one quarter of a 360 pipe.
Ex. "As the name implies, a quarter-pipe is half of a half-pipe."

Rad — Cool.
Ex. "Boneless has a totally rad board."

Ripper — A really good and consistent skater.
Ex. "Kickflip is a real ripper."

Sick — Cool.
Ex. "Bail was totally sick on the quarter-pipe this afternoon."

Slam — A bad, unexpected fall.
Ex. "Nosegrind was unable to bail and took a pretty hard slam."

Sweet — Cool.
Ex. "Backslide has some really sweet moves."

Tail — The back part of the skateboard.
Ex. "Pushing down on the tail is the beginning of an ollie."

Toe Rail — The rail of the board on which the toe of the foot rests.
Ex. "I might have slipped if it wasn't for that toe rail."

Trucks — The two parts of the skateboard connecting the deck with the wheels.
Ex. "Most skateboards today have metal trucks."

Transfer — Changing from rail to rail or ramp to ramp.
Ex. "The transfer is a necessary move to combine tricks."

Tweak — Bending or contorting the body and board during a skateboard maneuver.
Ex. "To maintain his balance, Fakie had to tweak into all sorts of poses."Vert Ramp — A half-pipe where the steepest section of the ramp is straight down.
Ex. "More than just a half-pipe, the vert ramp has longer sections at either edge."
