A CLEAN-UP CAPER

Monday February 16, 2009
Early this morning, visitors to a local area park were surprised to find that garbage which had previously been littering the area in and around the park had been collected, sorted into glass, plastic and aluminum recyclable containers and left for pick up by the city. Yesterday afternoon, visitors to the park had noted the debris, but there are no witnesses to the clean up and as of yet no one has come forward to take credit for the good deed. Whoever the mysterious protector – or protectors – of the playground are, the Mayor wished to offer them a simple message in return for their anonymous kindness: "Thanks."

WILDLIFE HIJINKS AT LOCAL ZOO?

Sunday February 15, 2009
Strange goings on at the local zoo this past Saturday night and into Sunday morning, as night security guard Scott "Scooter" Parks reported not one but TWELVE animals missing from their habitats on his nightly rounds. Suspecting that the creatures had been kidnapped, he alerted the authorities, but upon their arrival sometime later, it was noted that all animals were accounted for and present in their homes.

When asked for comment, a thoroughly confused Mr. Parks stated that he was "certain that the animals weren't there when he'd first made his rounds," sometime after 9pm. However, when asked to explain how the animals could have returned between that time and when the authorities arrived, or how they would have gotten out in the first place, Mr. Parks could offer no insight aside from a bewildered shrug and an exasperated sigh. More on this story as it develops.

UNEXPLAINED NIGHTIME NOISEMAKERS

Saturday February 14, 2009
Residents living near the local zoo reported strange noises coming from outside their homes late Saturday evening, but when police arrived to investigate, there were no apparent causes of the disturbance. Authorities confirmed that the several calls did come in citing noises that sounded like a "herd of wild animals," "group of young people," and "roller-rink's worth of wheels" were passing by in the darkness outside, but upon further investigation, no evidence of anything out of the ordinary was recovered. It is unclear just what could have caused the disturbance, and what – if anything – will be done about it.

MISSING SHIPMENT OF SKATEBOARDS REPORTED

Friday February 13, 2009
Armando Alvarez, owner of Armando's Skate & Surf Shop, and distinguished member of the local business community reported late this afternoon that a box from the shipment of skateboarding equipment that he was expecting to be delivered was missing. Of the 10 boxes in his order, only 9 arrived – leaving the 10th box unaccounted for. The shipment reportedly contained skateboards, skate shoes, and several packages of skateboarding merchandise including t-shirts, shorts, hooded sweatshirts and sunglasses. Both the police and the shipping company are investigating, but as of this time have no leads on the missing package.

Though obviously concerned about the loss, Mr. Alvarez wanted to take the opportunity to remind readers that this weekend begins the Armando's Skate & Surf Shop annual Valentine's Day SUPER Sale, beginning Saturday at 10am. Armando's Skate & Surf Shop is located at 1414 East 25th Street, downtown.
